Make Billing Easier and Better

eClinicalWorks

RCM & Billing Podcast - Blog - Headline

The advantages of choosing eClinicalWorks

According to industry research firm IBISWorld, outsourced medical billing in the U.S. grew by an average 3.1% annually between 2015 and 2020, to $4.3 billion. More visits, more government regulations, and more complexity in healthcare are driving growth in an area where keeping a close eye on the books really pays off.

At eClinicalWorks®, we view medical billing and Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) as integral parts of delivering quality care. We offer customers a choice of do-it-yourself billing or an RCM service model in which eClinicalWorks does all the work.

With eClinicalWorks, outsourcing is really “in-sourcing,” whichever method you choose. By keeping your financial management with your Electronic Health Record (EHR) provider, you ensure that data flows freely throughout your organization. With no competing systems to navigate, communications, analysis, and reporting are simple and clear. And your practice avoids the costs that can come with third parties who may not understand your EHR or your specific challenges.

Plus, eClinicalWorks keeps customers up to speed with webinars — such as our upcoming Regional Chapter event on billing and RCM — videos, podcasts, customer success stories, eCW University, and your Strategic Account Manager.

Enhancements for billing

As Business Development Manager Dianne Showalter discusses in this eCW podcast, there are several recent enhancements for customers managing their own billing.

  • Our visit type charge feature allows the biller to associate a flat rate with each type of medical visit, making it simple for front office staff to collect the correct payment at the time of service.
  • Users can now submit an electronic service authorization request through TriZetto Provider Solutions to obtain an authorization code to facilitate the submission of claims for services for which an insurance payer requires a prior authorization.

Don’t overlook existing features

Showalter notes that it can be easy to overlook bread and butter features that have long been available in eClinicalWorks. One is a method for addressing no-shows.

If a practice chooses to charge patients for no-show missed appointments, that process can be automated in eClinicalWorks by marking the visit status as “No-show missed billable appointment.”

Doing so prevents the doctor from getting that visit in his or her list of unsigned Progress Notes; the system automatically creates the claim as a locked Progress Note.

Going beyond billing basics

For more info on the billing features in the V11.52 series, users can visit my.eclinicalworks.com, watch videos, or read release notes. But for those looking for more expertise and engagement, we have additional options.

Our RCM Optimization consultants will work directly with your practice to make sure you are using new and existing RCM and billing features efficiently. It’s a great way to give your operations a tune-up.

And for practices looking to outsource their billing entirely, eClinicalWorks offers RCM Management Services. While our experts handle every aspect of billing, we keep your practice informed through dashboards and reports so that you can provide input on which items are written off and which are appealed.
